A paper titled ‘Analysis of Log File Data to Understand Problem-Solving Behavior: An Example of a Released Item from PISA 2012 Study’, co-written by Dr Ieong Man Kai, Dr Sit Pou Seong, Dr Mak Soi Kei, and Prof Cheung Kwok Cheung from the University of Macau (UM) Educational Testing and Assessment Research Centre, recently received the only Best Paper Award at the 2015 Global Chinese Conference on Educational Information and Assessment – Chinese Association of Psychological Testing Annual Conference.

The award-winning paper studies problem-solving behaviours by analysing log file data patterns of a released item from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2012. The project aims to explain how log file data collected from computerised tests can be used in educational testing and assessment in the era of big data.

This year’s conference received more than 100 paper submissions from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The conference provided a platform for Chinese scholars in the fields of educational technology, psychometrics, and testing and assessment to discuss their latest research findings.

The research team formed by Dr Ieong, Dr Sit, Dr Mak, and Prof Cheung has been participating in research projects on PISA in Macao. Their studies have been published in international academic journals and at international conferences.
