The top management of the University of Macau headed for Portugal on 15 March 2007. They will meet with Portuguese Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education and visit a number of famous tertiary and research institutions. Bilateral exchange will focus on higher education as well as on academic and research development.

The delegation includes Dr. Tse Chi Wai, Chairman of University Council, Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector, Prof. Manuel Trigo, Dean of Faculty of Law, Prof. Li Yiping, Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology, Prof. Gabriel Donleavy, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Hao Yufan, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Shan Wen Jing, Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Wang Yi-Tao, Director of Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, Mr. Paul Pang, Registrar, and Dr. Simon Lee of Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences.

The visit will last ten days and destinations include Lisbon, Coimbra, Aveiro, Braga, Guimarães and Oporto. The delegation will first meet with the Portuguese Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, José Mariano Gago, and the Secretary-of-State, Manuel Heitor. Both sides will take the precious opportunity to exchange experience in higher education. Delegates from UM will introduce recent academic and research development and achievements of the University and will particularly underscore outcome of research projects developed by researchers from both sides.

Further, the delegation will meet with persons-in-charge from a number of tertiary institutions to promote cooperation and exchange in academic and research areas. These institutions include the University of Lisbon, Technical University of Lisbon, New University of Lisbon, University of Coimbra, University of Aveiro, University of Minho, and University of Oporto. They will also visit the National Civil Engineering Laboratory, Knowledge Pavilion, Lisbon Academy of Sciences, YDream, Portuguese Scientific Computer Network, and Priberam, an institution that cooperates with Microsoft Portugal in developing Language Technology.
