The University of Macau (UM) Library recently launched a collection of rare ancient books housed in the library. The collection was a collaboration between UM’s library and the National Library of China Publishing House, and is part of a national rare ancient books project.

Other libraries that participate in the project include Harvard University library and Princeton University library in the United States; the library of the University of Toronto in Canada; Tianjin Library, Fudan University library, the Capital Library of China, and Nanjing University Library, in China.

In recent years, the UM library has made a great effort in preserving ancient books, which has yielded good results. In addition to the recent publication of the rare books collection, three ancient books housed in the library were included in the National Catalogue of Rare Ancient Books in 2009.
