UM Martial Arts Team bagged twelve gold medals at the 3rd Hong Kong International Wushu Competition held in mid-February 2008 in Hong Kong. The competition was organized by Hong Kong Wushu School and supported by Zhejiang International Sports Exchange Centre. The Qigong Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Health Qigong Association were the advising units. The competition attracted 168 representative teams, almost 2,000 athletes, from 17 countries.
Five contestants from the University of Macau participated in Nan Quan, Shaolin Quan, Taiji Quan, Baji Quan, Daoshu, Jianshu and Gunshu series. Lai Iam Fong, Coach of UM Martial Arts Team, and Ho Sin Man, UM student, won three gold medals respectively while Liu Wei Hua, Ieong Hio Ieong and Chan Kin Hei each earned two medals. In addition, Lai Iam Fong was given the “Excellent Coach Award”.
