(12 Sept, Macao) Postgraduate Lu Jia at the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences of the University of Macau (UM) won student poster award at the Seventh Meeting of Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine (CGCM) held in Taiwan from 27 to 30 August. The winning poster was prepared based on her Master’s thesis titled “Evaluation on Quality Consistency of Angelica sinensis (Danggui) and Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuanxiong) Used in Clinics in China”.

Lu’s research project performed qualitative and quantitative analysis of active components in Danggui and Chuanxiong collected from 58 provincial hospitals in China. With chemometric methods and mathematical statistics software, quality consistency of these two Chinese medicines used in clinics was comprehensively evaluated. The result is helpful to ensuring the safety and efficacy of medication.

Established in 2003, the CGCM comprises 88 top research institutions and famous pharmaceutical enterprises around the world. Its members come from various countries or regions, including the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Korea, USA, UK, Germany, Australia, Canada and so on. The CGCM aims to advance the development of Chinese herbal medicine to benefit humankinds through assembling the efforts of the academic institutions, industries and regulatory agencies in the field around the world, and to work towards gaining the approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of USA for using Chinese medicines in clinical treatment.

The supervisor of Lu Jia is Professor Li Shaoping, Associate Professor of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences.
