20 members from the Fencing Team of the University of Macao (UM) and their four coaches have participated in the National College Cup Fencing Tournament held by Sun Yat-Sen University and won several prizes, including the First Prize in Men’s A Grade Team Epee and Sportsmanship Award.

This year, the UM Fencing Team has sent Coaches Kyrie Ieong, Man-Tak Lok, In-I Lao and Man-Kit Lei, Team Leader Lam Chan (Faculty of Business Administration); Deputy Team Leaders Yuting Hao (Faculty of Business Administration) and Hui Xie (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) as well as members Rubi Ye, Xinyu Li, Miao Ni, Si Chen, Cheng-Kio Chan, Jinyi Ye and Gao Shan from the Faculty of Business Administration; Un-Teng Cheong, Tsz-Wai Ng, Minghong Xu and Jingsheng Pan from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; and Sio-Kei Lee, Shuang Yang, Chi-Kei Sam, Hau-Yin Leung, Zhuliang Xu and Xuefeng Zhu from the Faculty of Science and Technology to the Tournament.

The UM Fencing Team performed well and returned home with the First Prize in Men’s A Grade Team Epee and Sportsmanship Award; the Third prize in Women’s A Grade Individual Epee; the Fifth Prize in Men’s A Grade Team Sabre; the Fourth Prize in Women’s A Grade Individual Sabre; and the Fourth Prize of Women’s A Grade Team Epee.

This year’s Tournament has attracted the participation of more than 400 talented students from 43 universities across the country. Although the competition was intense, the UM Fencing Team was still able to remain steady and play well. In order to let the seniors lead the freshmen, UM team has also sent new members to join this year’s tournament to gain more experience from their colleagues and the contest.
