A delegation from the Drafting Committee for the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, the Preparatory Committee for the Macao SAR, the Committee for the Basic Law of the Macao SAR under the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, today (3 December) visited the University of Macau (UM) in the company of Macau Basic Law Promotion Association Deputy Director Lei Pui Lam.

The guests were warmly received by Dr Tse Chi Wai, advisor to UM’s University Council; Prof Wei Zhao, rector of UM; Prof Haydn Chen, vice rector (students affairs) of UM; Prof Da-Hsuan Feng, director of UM’s Global Affairs Office and special assistant to the rector; and Prof Liu Chuan Sheng, master of Chao Kuang Piu College.

Rector Wei Zhao told the guests about the university’s milestones, latest developments, the “4-in-1” model of education, the residential college system, and future development strategies. Li Fei, chairman of the Committee for the Basic Law of the Macao SAR under the NPC Standing Committee, shared how the bill regarding the jurisdiction over the new campus was adopted by NPC Standing Committee, adding that UM’s new campus is testament to the determination and effort of the NPC Standing Committee and the Macao society to build a better university.
