Ph.D (Biomedical Sciences) student Ms. Li Yingbo and MSc (Chinese Medicinal Science) student Ms. Tang Jingyan from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) attended the 8th Meeting of the Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine 2009 held in Nottingham (UK) days ago.

The Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine (CGCM) aims to promote and globalize Chinese herbal medicine through knowledge-sharing among academic, industrial and regulatory bodies from around the world. This year, CGCM has received over 100 abstracts from postgraduate students around the world. Through intense competition, CGCM selected the top 20 papers and awarded full travel grant to the authors for attending the meeting. The two papers entitled “Bisdemethyoxycurcumin protects against t-BHP-induced cytotoxicity in human umbilical vein endothelial cells by regulating the phosphorylation level of ERK1/2 and Akt” submitted by Ms. Li Yingbo (supervised by Prof. Wang Yitao) and “Calycosin from Radix Astragali Promotes Angiogenesis via Estrogen Receptor and MAPK Signaling Activation” submitted by Ms. Tang Jingyan (supervised by Prof. Lee Ming Yuen) are among the top 20 papers. The award represents full recognition of the achievements and contributions made by ICMS to the international research in this field, and their works were supported by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (029/2007/A2 and 045/2007/A3).
