Dr Brian Hall, assistant professor of psychology of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Social Sciences, recently published his research findings in The Lancet. Some of his other works will appear in the American Journal of Public Health and Social Science and Medicine later this year. Dr Hall has also been appointed consulting editor of Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy, published by the American Psychological Association.

The Lancet is a well-known international medical journal, which is considered the oldest and the most influential journal in the medical field. An article entitled “Africans in South China Face Social and Structural Health Barriers”, first-authored by Dr Hall, was published in the April issue of the journal. The work places emphasis on the health issues facing the Africans living in Guangzhou and other parts of southern China. This is the first time The Lancet has published research findings in the areas of clinical psychology and public health from a UM professor.

The American Journal of Public Health, and Social Science and Medicine will each publish an article first-authored by Dr Hall based on his research in collaboration with scholars from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in their up-coming August issues. The works are focused on the social resources and resilience among women and children exposed to war.

The American Journal of Public Health will publish Dr Hall’s work entitled “The
Effect of Cognitive Therapy on Structural Social Capital: Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial Among Sexual Violence Survivors in the Democratic Republic of Congo”; Social Science and Medicine will publish another article from Dr Hall, entitled“Understanding Resilience in Armed Conflict: Social Resources and Mental Health of Children in Burundi”. These two journals have an Impact Factor of 3.87 and 2.37 respectively and the American Journal of Public Health is ranked No. 3 among the 131 journals in public health indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).

Dr Hall has also been appointed consulting editor of Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy, an SSCI-indexed authoritative international journal in the field of psychological trauma with an Impact Factor of 1.457. His term on the editorial board will begin in January 2015. Dr Hall is currently serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Anxiety Disorders, a leading academic journal focused on anxiety disorder research and treatment.
