The Commfest, organised by the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), opened yesterday (22 April) at UM’s Cultural Centre. Erica, a film made by fourth-year students from the Department of Communication, who have participated in the UM Gateway, a video production workshop, as well as Umac Bridges, a publication produced by fourth-year students from the department, were presented at the event.

As one of the most important activities of the Department of Communication, the Commfest aims to provide a platform for students of English communication to showcase their graduation projects presented in various forms, such as film, magazine and video. Umac Bridges is one such example. Coordinator Carolina Sin and Editor-in-Chief Karen Lei said that the theme of the magazine is “seven-piece puzzle”, because they believe that with a little imagination and creativity, the seven seemingly unremarkable pieces can result in endless possibilities, which in a way reminds them of Macao, a small city with a rich cultural heritage and endless possibilities. They hope to uncover the exciting yet little-known side of Macao through the magazine.

Erica is a film under the UM Gateway project. It took the students more than two months to make. The film takes the audience on a journey of self-discovery of Erica. What does Erica discover in the end? Find out the answer at the film screening at the Cultural Centre on 24 April (Wednesday) at 7:00pm.
