University of Macau (UM) students from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering (EME), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), placed third at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Greater China Region Design Competition 2013, for their project, “Potential Energy Car”. Organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the competition attracted students from numerous well-known universities, including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, Hong Kong City University, Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology, and UM. The eight award-winning students are Mr. Deng Jiaming, Mr. Hong Ka Hou, Mr. Leong Un Lok, Ms. Im Wa Ian, Ms. Iong In Wa, Mr. Ieong Ka Lok, Mr. Lin Chen, and Mr. Guo Dawei. The winning project received support from Prof. Tam Lap Mou, Prof. Wong Pak Kin, Dr. Lo Kin Ho, and Dr. Xie Zhengchao from FST. The UM team was led by Dr. Alfred Wong.
