Mr. Tim Gardam, principal of St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford, and Prof. Mark Stephen Wrighton, chancellor of the Washington University in St. Louis, recently visited the University of Macau (UM). They were very impressed with UM’s achievements as well as with its vision for the future with the new campus on Hengqin Island.

Mr. Tim Gardam, principal of St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford; Dr. David Harris, vice-principle of St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford, and Mr. Jeremy Woodall, director of development (Asia), University of Oxford China Office, visited UM’s new campus where they were warmly received by UM’s University Council member Mr. Patrick Huen and UM Rector Wei Zhao. Rector Wei Zhao gave the delegation a guided tour of the library, the university gallery, the research centre, the residential colleges and faculties on the new campus. After the visit, the delegation met with Prof. Haydn Chen, vice rector (student affairs) of UM; Prof. Jacky So, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA); Prof. Wang Yitao, director of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), and Prof. Simon Lee, also from ICMS; and Ms. Annie Chan, functional head of international relations of the Global Affairs Office.

Prof. Mark Stephen Wrighton, chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis, visited UM in the company of UM’s University Council member Dr. Eric Yeung, and met with Dr. Tse Chi Wai, chair of the University Council; UM Rector Wei Zhao; Prof. Jacky So, dean of FBA; Prof. Mok Kai Meng, dean of the Honours College; Prof. George Wei from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; and Ms. Annie Chan, functional head of international relations of the Global Affairs Office. Rector Wei Zhao shared with the delegation the latest development of the university, including the new campus, the “4-in-1” mode of education, the Honours College and residential colleges. Mr. Gardam and Prof. Wrighton said that the visit enhanced their knowledge of UM and provided a good platform for both sides to explore future collaboration opportunities.
