Dr Peter Liao, founding president of the Asian College of Knowledge Management (ACKM); Aggie Zhang, chief executive of ACKM; and Bonnie Liu, associate director of ACKM paid a special visit to the University of Macau (UM) today (31 January), to confer two honorary fellowships, honorary fellow of ACKM and honorary fellow of the Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administration, upon UM Rector Wei Zhao, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to higher education and society. Previous recipients of the title of Honorary Fellow from ACKM include Prof Paul Chu Ching-Wu and other well-known scientists, educators and community leaders.

After the conferment ceremony, which held at 10:30am, Rector Wei Zhao gave an on-site interview to Aggie Zhang, founding president of ACKM. During the interview Rector Wei Zhao talked about UM’s education philosophy in a world of increasing globalisation as well as how UM plans to provide high quality education to students and to achieve the goal of becoming a world-class university through a multi-pronged strategy.

Amid the trend of globalisation, Asian countries and regions are becoming increasingly interconnected. Interaction between the four Chinese-speaking territories (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) is becoming more and more frequent. The flow of resources, talented people, funds and knowledge between China and the Asia-Pacific region is also developing rapidly. These have combined to lead to the emergence of various forms of collaboration. ACKM invites individuals with world-class achievements to serve as its honorary fellows, to recognise their achievements and contributions to enterprises, industries and society in Asia, and also in hopes of advancing the development of the Asia-Pacific region by providing a platform for knowledge exchange for scholars, entrepreneurs and senior government officials in Asia.

Founded in 2001, ACKM is dedicated to the continuous development, promotion and application of knowledge management principles, models and techniques in Asia. The Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administration is a non-profit organisation established in 1990 by the Letters Patent from the Government of Canada. It seeks to play an innovative and progressive role in the ongoing professional development of practising managers and business leaders throughout the world.
