The Macao SAR government recently announced the recipients of Decorations, Medal and Certificates of Merit. The following University of Macau (UM) members have been awarded the Medal of Merit and Certificate of Merit by the Macao SAR government. They are Ao Peng Kong, member of the University Assembly; Kou Kam Fai, member of the University Council; Tang Keng Pan, professor of the Department of Chinese, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Wong Hang Cheong, PhD student of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). They were awarded the Medal of Merit–Professions, Medal of Merit–Education, Medal of Merit–Culture, and Medal of Merit–Sport.

Ao Peng Kong is a member of UM’s University Assembly and president of the Board of Directors of the Civil Engineering Laboratory of Macau. Ever since the 1980s he has been actively involved in various large-scale construction projects in Macao, mainly responsible for technical supervision and engineering consultation and administration, hoping to improve engineering technology and construction quality supervision in Macao.

 

Kou Kam Fai is a member of UM’s University Council and principal of Pui Ching Middle School where he has taught for 28 years. For a long time he has spared no effort to advance education development in Macao. He has been actively involved in social affairs and is vice president of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau.

 

Tang Keng Pan is a professor of Chinese and PhD supervisor at UM. He dedicates himself to language studies and literature promotion. He is president of the Association of Modern Literature of Macau, president of the Macao Yue Dialect Association, editor-in-chief of Cantonese Studies, and associate editor-in-chief of Macao Linguistics.

 

Wong Hang Cheong is a PhD student of FST. He has won several medals at international artistic cycling competitions, including bronze medals at the UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships in 2010 and 2011. He holds the Asian record for men’s artistic cycling. He was awarded a Medal of Merit by the Macao SAR government in 2007.

Nuno Miguel, a member of administrative staff of the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, is the leader of the Macao Roller Hockey Men’s Team, which has won the Asian championship five times, and which received the Certificate of Merit.
