The book is composed of eleven of Prof. Tang’s best papers, covering a diverse range of topics in Catholic studies, including Macao’s position in the spread of Catholicism in East Asia, the local missionary history, the spread of Catholic arts in East Asia, the condition of churches and Christians in China and the financial condition of the China Mission, etc. These studies are based on solid historical materials from authoritative sources, from religious and government documents, memorials and reports to public and personal recordings and material subjects. Materials on which this book is based are not only in the Chinese language, but also in various foreign languages, such as English, Portuguese, Italian, Latin, Dutch, Japanese, etc. With meticulous textual research and rich materials in different languages, this book sets a good example for those who study the Catholic history in China.
