The Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), will launch the 26th Portuguese Language and Culture Summer Programme on 2 July 2012. The programme will last until 27 July 2012. The opening ceremony will take place at the Cultural Centre, UM, on 2 July (next Monday) at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s summer programme aims to impart knowledge of the Portuguese language and culture. 480 students from different Asian countries and districts such as mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia applied for this programme and 350 were accepted. Local participants are entitled to sponsorship from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR.
The organizer says it is a good thing that students from different Asian countries and districts gather at UM to learn the Portuguese language and culture because it will help Macao to better fulfill its role as a bridge between eastern and western cultures. Moreover, the programme will give students the opportunity to learn more about the social, economic, political and cultural situations of Macao SAR.

This year’s courses will be divided into twelve sections at four levels: beginners’ level, basic level, intermediate level, and advanced level.

Apart from regular classes and practices, the organizer will also arrange colorful cultural and recreational activities for participants, such as visits, seminars, movies, drawing classes, Portuguese folk dances, and so on.
