The Postgraduate Association and the Student Affairs Office of the University of Macau (UM) together held a “Chinese New Year Celebration Gathering” on 22 January with mainland students, in hopes of bringing them "a sense of home" so that they could feel the merry atmosphere of the Chinese New Year in Macao. UM rector Wei Zhao, Prof. George Watt, head of Pearl Jubilee College and Prof. Sylvia S L Ieong, director of the Rector's Office also attended the gathering.
