Recently, Deputy Director of the Drug Administration of Shenzhen Municipality Ms. Wang Xiana and representatives from the Shenzhen Institute for Drug Control (SIDC) visited the State Key Laboratory for Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (QRCM Lab) at the University of Macau (UM). This is the first time relevant parties from Shenzhen has visited UM since the joint laboratory by UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) and SIDC was inaugurated in August 2011. UM’s Vice Rector (Research) Prof. Rui Martins warmly received the delegation. Prof. Li Shaoping of ICMS expressed hopes that Shenzhen and UM can enhance collaboration, actively seek to resolve issues of the most concern to ordinary people, such as drug quality, and strive to achieve breakthroughs in the studies of the quality of Chinese medicine. Prof. Zheng Ying, also of the ICMS, provided detailed information about ICMS in personnel training, research and international collaboration, with focus on the institute’s future direction and research focus. Wang Xiana was very impressed with ICMS’s rapid development and achievements over the past decade, and said that Shenzhen and Macao should complement each other’s strengths, concentrate resources, and carry out collaboration in various fields, so as to advance the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Shenzhen and the industrialization of the Chinese medicine industry in Macao. SIDC Director Lu Yi specially thanked UM for supplying excellent graduates to SIDC and said he hopes over time the joint laboratory can yield some landmark results.
