A Touch of Africa: Photo Exhibition of LCWC Service-Learning Trip to Kenya
Lui Che Woo College
10 September 2018 - 30 September 2018
E2, Wu Yee Sun Library, UM
Introduction From 19 June to 2 July, 2018, 5 students from Lui Che Woo College led by resident fellow Dr. Caixia CHU accomplished a service-learning project in Kenya. The purpose of the trip was to provide Chinese teaching in an education center located at a slum called Ganita Kawangware, and to learn the national reservation endeavor by visiting Masai Mara National Reserve.
“It must be very hot there!” “Your skin will get burned!” “It’s dangerous there!” “You guys are crazy!” “Oh, many infectious diseases there” “Really? Are you sure about it?”
These were what people said to us when they heard about our plan. We set off anyway. We had great cultural shock; we panicked and worried. But gradually we relaxed, laughed and were charmed. In the end, we got attached and were reluctant to leave.
Let us present you a touch of Africa, with the hope that one day you will experience it by yourself.
We are pleased to inform that the “Chapas Sinicas” exhibition co-organized by our Library is going to be held at University Gallery (E1) from 5 September to 31 October 2018 (Opening hours -- 09:00 to 18:00).
“Chapas Sinicas” is a collection of records of Macao during the Qing Dynasty.
