Social Science Research CentrE

on contemporary china

The Social Science Research Centre on Contemporary China (SSRC) is one of the research centres affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Its predecessor was the China Economic Research Centre established in 1986, which was renamed soon after the bachelor degree program on contemporary China was launched in 1998. The primary objective of SSRC is to initiate, promote and co-ordinate academic exchanges and research on the political and socio-economic developments of Chinese societies, broadly defined to include Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and the overseas Chinese communities. It works closely with the programs and departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences in providing research, documentation and other forms of support to their teaching activities.

SSRC operates as an inclusive platform facilitating research activities and academic exchanges between faculty members, students and the general public.
