This course is a doctoral level seminar designed to develop the studentsˇ¦ knowledge and skills of ideographic and qualitative methods in social sciences. Students will engage in the nature of inquiry in social sciences and explore different ontological, epistemological and related methodological perspectives of qualitative research in applied contexts, professional practice, and cultural settings. Students will engage with high-level readings of primary sources in qualitative methodologies in the social sciences and engage in critical analysis of exemplary qualitative research papers. The course will also engage students critically and through direct experience with the procedures of designing and implementing qualitative research projects, develop interpretive/hermeneutic skills for a range of qualitative methodologies, and enhance competency in writing research papers for publication in refereed English journals.
