Two baby white tigers are now exhibited in the 58th Floor in the Macau Tower. They are about six months old; one metre long; having white skin with stripes on their bodies. According to Pip Lau, Guest Service Manager of the Macau Tower, the two cubs eat four chickens daily, a little amount of beef mixed with milk powder to help them absorb calcium. They love very much playing with towels and are curious of their surroundings. White tigers, honored as sacred animals in ancient China, signified immaculate reigns from great emperors. They could only be seen during times of wealth and peace. At present, there are no more than 500 white tigers left in China. The Macau Tower has rented these two white tigers for six months from a Panyu zoo in China as part of a promotional scheme for the tiger slots that has been set up in the Tower. Moreover, the organizer hoped the tigers can bring more entertainment to both local and non-local visitors of the Macau Tower. Ma Hoi Ling, a visitor from Hong Kong, said, "I think the Macau Tower has done a good job in bringing the two white tigers to Macau. Few places in the world have white tigers, but such a small place like Macau has these precious animals. I think it would attract more visitors to come." Two specialists from Panyu have
been invited to the Macau Tower to look after the cubs. Due to the
safety concern, the visitors are not allowed to take pictures with
the tigers, however they can shoot the tigers' cages. The ticket
costs MOP$45 for Macau citizens and MOP$70 for tourists. The fees
include a sight-seeing trip to the 58th and 61st floor where you
can have a grand view of the city. Also, there is a competition on
naming the two white tigers. The deadline for the competition was
October 31 and the winners can get a MOP1,000 cash coupon and a two-day-one-
night ticket to the Panyu Wild Animal Zoo.
