A month of glamorous nights
By Jordis Man

Thick fog disappointed viewers of the first round of the International Firework Contest on November 1 as it blanketed the Macao Tower and smudged the fascination of fireworks.

A huge crowd of people gathered in the Praia Grande for the show which started at 9:20pm. The first demonstrator was the Thailand team whose works were in a traditional style. It was followed by the Japanese team at 10:00pm with simple and elegant, yet not gorgeous, beauty. Fortunately, there was no serious traffic jam reported.

A colorful celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Grand Prix is being held throughout the whole month of November. A total of 14 celebration events including Music Performance, Macau Food Festival, Macau Fringe, Live Performance & Dancing Festival, International Firework Competition and so on are scheduled with the firework competition as an inaugural activity.

The 15th International Firework Contest, starting on November 1, is one of the most important activities of the celebration. It has attracted 10 teams of professional firework designers from Portugal, Spain, France, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Philippines and China to display their best productions.

There will be firework displays on five nights throughout the month, with two competing teams having their performance at 9:00pm and 10:00pm respectively. The schedule starts on November 1, featuring the competing teams of Thailand and Japan. Sunday, November 9, will be the turn of Australia and Taiwan teams to light the sky. On Wednesday, November 12, it is a show of France and Korea. This is followed by Spain and China on Sunday, November 16. The final display from Portugal and the Philippines will be held on Saturday, November 22.

The marvelous show is performed near the Praia Grande. It can be viewed in most places in the city and Taipa. In between these firework days, there will be many other entertaining activities to make the entire month full of fun.
