Attention to all new students

An orientation presentation will be given to all the new students in September to let them have more knowledge about the University of Macau (UMac).

The new head of the Student Affairs Office, Si Tou Ieng Kit, said that the presentation would explain to freshmen differences between the secondary and tertiary education and functions of various departments in UMac.

"We find that students are not familiar with the departments of UMac. When they need help, they do not know where they can ask for it," said Si Tou.

Peter Wong, a UMac student, thought the presentation is a good idea. "I wish that we had this kind of talk. Because apart from the FBA office, I know nothing else about UMac," said Wong.

Si Tou also said that questionnaires would be distributed to students during the talk to collect information on students' hobbies and special talents so that his office would plan more student activities according to their interest.

"It is good for us to have more activities here," said Fanny Wu, a UMac student. "In my secondary school, I joined many clubs, but in UMac, it seems that the only thing to do here is to attend classes."

Si Tou, who started his new job as the head of Student Affairs Office last month, believed that UMac students spend too little spare time on campus.

"I think that UMac students should spend more their leisure time in school activities. It is in the university life that they could build a complete moral integrity and develop the ability to think independently," said Si Tou.

He hoped that he could provide better service to UMac students during his appointment in the university.
